Joseph, Katy Tigers Reach Milestone Win

By George Slaughter Katy fans are celebrating Friday’s 52-7 victory over Fort Bend Travis for several reasons. The first is that the win gets Katy off to a good start in the playoffs. By George Slaughter High school football playoff time is here, and Katy, Seven Lakes, Taylor, and Tompkins begin their football playoff quest Friday night. Katy (9-1) vs. Fort Bend Travis (8-2) The Tigers meet the Tigers at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Legacy Stadium. The game is a rematch of last year’s bi-district game, which Katy won 45-14. Seven Lakes Clinches Football Playoff Spot

By George Slaughter The Seven Lakes Spartans clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2014 with a 40-10 victory over Cinco Ranch Friday night. The win improves the Spartans to 6-4 overall and 3-3 in District 19-6A. The Spartans finish third behind Katy and Tompkins, and ahead of Taylor, which clinched the fourth playoff spot. KISD Reassigns Seven Lakes Football Coach to Paetow High School

By George Slaughter The Katy Independent School District, in an unexpected move, has reassigned football coach and athletics director Lydell Wilson to Paetow High School to serve as a teacher/coach. Wilson coached the Spartans from 2012-17. Last year’s squad finished with a 4-6 record. UIL Classifies Paetow Panthers in Class 5A

By George Slaughter The University Interscholastic League, which oversees Texas high school sports, placed Katy’s newest high school sports program in Class 5A this morning as part of its annual reclassification and realignment effort. Paetow High School opened last fall. The Panthers debut their varsity sports program this fall.
