HOUSTON, August 21, 2026 – Justin “Juice” Cryer, a Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston (BGCGH) alumnus and former Royal High School football standout, recently presented a $1,000 gift to the Royal Boys & Girls Club in appreciation of the support and guidance he received as a Club member.
Located at Royal High School in Pattison, the Royal Boys & Girls Club played an important role in Cryer’s high school years.
In a note to Club Director Bonnie Sanchez, Cryer recalled the people who encouraged him, helped him become a leader and supported him both on and off the field. He also remembered coaching flag football with fellow varsity players, playing basketball in the gym, working with the Club’s media team and participating in the Youth of the Year program.
Today, Cryer is a student at The University of Texas at Austin, where he plays linebacker for the Longhorns football team after transferring from Florida State University. At Royal High School, he was a two-time captain of the varsity football team and earned first-team all-district honors following his junior season.
“Justin’s generosity and desire to give back is truly inspiring,” says Kevin Hattery, President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston. “He is one of many success stories at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston. Justin benefited from mentorship, academic support and leadership opportunities as a Club member, and now he is choosing to give back to the organization that helped shape him.
“This student athlete wanted to make a difference with his donation. A young person we once served is now choosing to support and serve the young people coming behind him,” Hattery continues.
“I’m still in school myself, still working toward my own goals, but I felt like this was something I had to do,” says Cryer. “The Club shaped who I am on and off the field, and giving back now and in the future, while I’m young, is my way of showing the next group of kids that you don’t have to wait until you’ve ‘made it’ to start helping others.”
Cryer’s gift will support the Royal Boys & Girls Club and help provide opportunities for today’s Club members to learn, grow and succeed.
