Eight Candidates File for Katy ISD School Board Seats

By George Slaughter

Katy Independent School District voters will decide who will serve on two trustee positions, as well as a proposed $676 million bond.

Term of office for trustees is three years. Election Day is May 1.

Position 6

Incumbent Susan Gesoff, an engineer, has filed for reelection. She was elected in 2018.

Gesoff has drawn five opponents, one of whom, Rebecca Fox, is a former trustee. Fox served in the Position 2 seat from 2004-2018. Fox, who describes herself as a motivational speaker, sought election that year to the Position 1 seat in 2018, but lost to Lance Redmon, who now holds that seat. Redmon is up for reelection in 2022.

The four other candidates who filed to seek the seat are Bonnie Anderson, an assessor quality management analyst; William X. Branch, a truck driver; Garima DGupta, a teacher; and Joe Wojcik, a security investigator and adjunct college professor.

Position 7

Incumbent Dawn Champagne, who works in retail sales, has filed for reelection. She was elected in 2018.

She has drawn one opponent, Walter Butler, who works in sales.
