Cornyn: Harris County to Receive $250K in Federal Grants to Prevent Youth Substance Abuse

WASHINGTON – Bay Area Council on Drugs and Alcohol will receive a $125,000 federal grant for the Southeast Harris County Community Coalition and Fort Bend Regional Council on Substance Abuse Inc. will receive a $125,000 federal grant for the Fort Bend Community Prevention Coalition for youth substance use prevention and combatting opioid abuse, U.S. Senator John Cornyn announced. The funding comes from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy’s (ONDCP) Drug-Free Communities Support Program, which Sen. Cornyn recently reauthorized through the Substance Abuse Prevention Act.

“This grant will support key steps in protecting young Texans from the dangers of substance abuse,” said Sen. Cornyn.  “I’m glad to help communities in Harris County invest in the futures of young residents and take an active role in our next generation’s health.”

Senator John Cornyn, a Republican from Texas, is a member of the Senate Finance, Intelligence, and Judiciary Committees.
