AUSTIN – U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) announced today that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has awarded $2,861,935 in federal grant funding to the City of Houston to enhance public safety, equip law enforcement with updated technology, and reduce the backlog of child abuse and sexual assault cases. The funding comes from the DOJ’s Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program, which Sen. Cornyn voted to fund as part of last year’s Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act.
“Access to proper equipment and modernized training is essential to ensuring our law enforcement officers are best able to protect Texans,” said Sen. Cornyn. “This funding will equip law enforcement with the tools and resources needed to improve incident response times, operational readiness, and public safety outcomes.”
Senator John Cornyn, a Republican from Texas, is a member of the Senate Finance, Judiciary, Intelligence, Foreign Relations, and Budget Committees.
