KATY, Texas — Fall is bringing a full calendar of events to Katy, with the coming days offering residents opportunities to explore nature, follow city government, meet first responders, celebrate Katy’s history and take part in community education.
The schedule begins Saturday with the City of Katy’s Bird Week Celebration and continues into October with the Katy Rice Harvest Festival Parade, the 10th anniversary of Lone Star Safety Fest and another installment of Katy Vibes’ Edutainment series.
For residents looking for things to do in Katy, the start of fall offers a mix of family activities, public meetings, safety education and longstanding community traditions.
Bird Week Celebration brings families outdoors
The City of Katy will host its Bird Week Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the 3B Learning Center, 5402 Franz Road.
The family-friendly event will feature guided nature walks, bird-watching activities, bird-themed arts and crafts and other hands-on activities. The City says visitors will also be able to explore habitats at the learning center and learn more about protecting birds and other wildlife in the community.
The event provides an opportunity for families to spend time outdoors while learning more about the natural environment that remains part of Katy as the area continues to grow.
City meetings and tax rate hearing scheduled Monday
Residents interested in City of Katy government will have several meetings to follow Monday, Sept. 28.
The Social Services Advisory Board is scheduled to meet from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. A Katy City Council meeting is listed for 6:30 p.m., and the City has also scheduled a public hearing on the 2026 tax rate for 6:30 p.m. at Katy City Hall, 901 Avenue C.
Residents planning to attend should check the official City of Katy calendar and posted agendas for the latest meeting information.
Public meetings are one of the most direct ways for residents to follow decisions affecting their city, particularly when discussions involve taxes, spending, development and other municipal issues.
Katy Rice Harvest Festival Parade opens October celebrations
Katy’s history will move into the spotlight Saturday, Oct. 3, when the Katy Rice Harvest Festival Parade returns.
The parade is scheduled from 9 to 10 a.m. and is one of the City of Katy’s featured fall traditions. The City describes the event as a community celebration featuring colorful floats, local organizations and residents gathering along the streets of Katy.
The parade leads into the Katy Rice Harvest Festival, scheduled for the following weekend in Historic Downtown Katy.
The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, at Historic Town Square, 904 Avenue C. The City says the weekend will include live music, a carnival, food trucks, vendors, children’s activities and other attractions.
For Katy, the Rice Harvest Festival is more than another fall event. Rice farming is part of the community’s history, and the annual celebration gives longtime residents and newer families an opportunity to connect with a tradition that helped shape the city.
Lone Star Safety Fest marks 10 years of community safety
Public safety will also take center stage on Oct. 3 when Lone Star Safety Fest returns to Typhoon Texas in Katy.
The free event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year. The event began in 2016 as Katy Area Safety Fest and has expanded over the past decade into a larger regional celebration focused on first responders, safety education and emergency preparedness.
Lone Star Safety Fest gives families an opportunity to meet first responders and learn more about fire service, law enforcement, emergency medical services, disaster preparedness and public-safety careers.
Emergency vehicles, equipment and hands-on demonstrations allow visitors to see some of the tools and training used by the people who respond when emergencies occur.
One of the event’s featured attractions is the Firefighter Combat Challenge, where firefighters complete physically demanding, job-related tasks while wearing full protective gear.
For children, seeing emergency vehicles and meeting firefighters, law enforcement officers and EMS personnel can turn safety education into a more memorable experience.
For adults, the event provides an opportunity to learn more about preparedness, emergency resources and the agencies that serve Katy and surrounding communities.

Katy Vibes continues Edutainment series Oct. 7
Community education will continue Wednesday, Oct. 7, when Katy Vibes hosts another installment of its Edutainment series at 24757 Katy Freeway.
The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and combines an educational presentation with music and activities designed to encourage conversation and community interaction.
Dr. Krizia Martinez of Sterling Physical Therapy & Wellness will present a program on healthy aging, mobility and injury prevention. Her presentation and question-and-answer session are scheduled from noon to 1 p.m.
Additional activities include music bingo, music trivia and karaoke.
The Edutainment series is designed to give residents access to useful information in a more relaxed community environment. The educational portion remains at the center of the program, while the surrounding activities give participants time to meet, talk and connect.
The Oct. 7 program follows previous Edutainment events that have brought local professionals, public-safety organizations and community partners together to share practical information with residents.
Fall calendar reflects a growing Katy community
Although the events serve different purposes, they share one common element: community participation.
Bird Week encourages families to explore Katy’s natural environment. City meetings give residents an opportunity to follow local government. The Rice Harvest celebration keeps Katy’s history visible. Lone Star Safety Fest connects families with first responders, while Katy Vibes provides another setting for education and conversation.
As Katy continues to grow, those opportunities for residents to meet one another and understand the organizations, traditions and resources around them become increasingly important.
