Event at the Post Oak Hotel raises funds to support students in the greater Houston area
WHAT: Soaring to New Heights—Communities In Schools of Houston’s (CIS) annual gala—takes place Wednesday, April 9, at The Post Oak Hotel. Chaired by philanthropists Caroline & Will Brown and Virginia & Cramer Williams, the event honors longtime board member Jan Redford, Ph.D., for 30 years of dedication to CIS.
The evening kicks off at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception, followed by dinner and a program at 7 p.m., featuring inspirational testimonies from CIS students, Student Support Managers, parents, and a principal. Live entertainment by Houston’s Klockwork band will close out the night with dancing.
Proceeds support CIS’s mission to empower students by providing critical resources—from mental health counseling and academic support to health and human services. CIS serves 135 campuses across Greater Houston, placing full-time Student Support Managers in schools to offer direct services and referrals. Additionally, CIS’ Mental Health Initiative, launched 13 years ago, delivers behavioral and mental health interventions across campuses.

About Communities In Schools of Houston
Communities In Schools of Houston (CIS) empowers every student, regardless of race, zip code, or socioeconomic background, to realize their potential in school and beyond. During the 2024-2025 school year, CIS is serving 135 school campuses across Greater Houston. CIS places at least one full-time staff member on each partner campus to deliver direct services and to connect students and families with needed community resources. We collaborate with 257 community partners each year to help students see, confront, and overcome the barriers that stand between them and a brighter future. CIS works alongside students, families, alumni, and stakeholders to create meaningful change that impacts lives today and generations to come.
