The University of Houston-Victoria will move toward more normal operations before the start of summer classes to allow more students, faculty and staff on campus.
The university will move from Phase 3 to Phase 4 of its Phased Reopening Plan on June 1. Phase 4 allows a greater number of students to take face-to-face classes with classroom occupancy at 70 percent. UHV will continue to offer classes through a mix of hybrid, real-time online and traditional online modes as it has this school year to give students increased choices.
“UHV’s first priority is first and foremost the safety of its students, faculty and staff,” UHV President Bob Glenn said. “We are encouraged by the positive signs in our communities including fewer COVID-19 cases and increasing vaccinations. We will continue to monitor the situation as we move forward.”
In addition to increased classroom occupancy, Phase 4 allows up to 70 percent of faculty and staff to be on campus with current social distancing guidelines, mask requirements and increased cleaning taking place. Phase 4 is the final phase before university operations return to normal.
UHV currently is in Phase 3, which allows classroom occupancy of up to 30 percent as well as up to 30 percent of faculty and staff to work on campus. The university began the spring semester in Phase 2, which limits classroom occupancy and employees on campus to 15 percent.
Summer classes will begin on June 7. The university’s administrators will reevaluate UHV’s reopening phase each week, and any changes will be announced as quickly as possible. Students will be notified through their UHV email accounts, and information will be updated on the university’s COVID-19 website at www.uhv.edu/covid-19/.
