Katy ISD Virtual Open House, Set for Tuesday, Offers a Look into Career, Technical Courses

By George Slaughter

The Katy Independent School District is holding a virtual open house to give students to learn about career and technical courses (CTE) at its Miller Career & Technology Center.

The virtual event is set for 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The open house will feature three 15-minute sessions to enable instructors to share information about their respective classes.

The open house also features a 6:15 p.m. information session with the program counselor. This particular information session will also be available for each time slot during the open house.

“Students will have the opportunity to hear from our CTE teachers, as well as see the labs and equipment our students use daily, all without having to physically come to the campus,” Kelley Kirila, MCTC principal, said. “Over the years, the MCTC open house has been a sought-out event with numerous students and parents in attendance. We wanted to continue our tradition of offering the open house, but this year due to COVID-19, interested individuals can enjoy the event from the comfort of their own homes.”

The district will offer over 30 courses, including business, industry, public service, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math).
