The Seven Lakes High School community has much to cheer about. Now it has a state championship cheering team to cheer about, as well.

The Spartans place first of 43 schools in Class 6A, Division 1, to win their title Thursday at the UIL State Spirit Championship in Fort Worth.

Amy Weaston, Seven Lakes cheer coach, said this is the second time the cheer team has medaled at the state championship. In 2019, the Spartans took third place.

“We are so proud to bring home another state title to our supporting Spartan Nation,” Weaston said.

In December, the Seven Lakes volleyball team won the state championship.

Three other Katy Independent School District high school cheer teams placed at the championship. Other teams who earned top 10 spots include:

  • Mayde Creek, which won fifth place at the Class 6A, Division 1 competition.
  • Cinco Ranch, which won seventh place at the Class 6A, Division 1 competition.
  • Jordan, which won fifth place in the Class 5A, Division 2 competition.
