Katy ISD Referral Deadline for Secondary GT Screenings is Fast Approaching

Think you have a gifted and talented student?  Beginning Monday, November 9, Katy Independent School District students in grades 6-11 can be referred for screening for the 2021-2022 Gifted and Talented (GT) program.  Parents must complete a Secondary Parent Checklist available at junior high and high school campuses or found on the Katy ISD GT and Advanced Academics website.  The checklist must be completed and returned to the campus by November 20.  Students whose Parent Checklist is not completed and returned by the deadline will not be screened.

“The State of Texas requires that various types of measures be used to identify students for gifted and talented programs,” said Joan Otten, Director of Gifted and Talented & Advanced Academic Studies.  “In Katy ISD, screening instruments include the Parent Checklist, classroom observation and standardized tests,” added Otten.

Students already identified and experiencing success in the GT program do not need to be screened, however GT students who would like to screen for additional services may complete an “Additional Services” request form.  Parents may contact their campus counselor or GT facilitator if they have additional questions.  Transfer students who were screened in the fall of 2020 must wait one full academic year before they can be re-screened.  For additional information about the GT program and the screening process, visit the Katy ISD GT and Advanced Academics website under the “Presentations” tab.
