Two teachers from the same small, Houston-area school district nominated for LifeChanger of the Year award

HOUSTON/KATY, Texas – Two science teachers from the same small school district in southwest Houston area have each been nominated for the LifeChanger of the Year award for their dedication to serving students in Houston and Katy.

The award is given annually by the National Life Group to K-12 educators and school employees who are making a significant difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence and leadership.

Biomedical science teacher Nilufar Fatih of the Harmony School of Ingenuity-Houston was nominated by a colleague who wrote, “Ms. Fatih has a patient, caring, and kind personality. She has good relationships with students, parents, and staff, and she’s dedicated to teaching and engaging students in learning.”

Ms. Fatih is a 2012 graduate of the University of Houston, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. She has been a teacher with Harmony Public Schools 2014.

In nearby Katy, computer science teacher Anjali Nanda of the Harmony School of Innovation-Katy was also nominated for the award by a colleague, who recognized her for her “high moral and ethical standards.

“She is known for her effective classroom management, positive relationships with other adults, and ability to develop relationships with her students. Ms. Nanda is highly dedicated and has a patient, caring, and kind personality.”

Ms. Nanda joined Harmony in January 2015. In addition to teaching computer science, she is also a robotics coach and gifted & talented program coach.

Both women are a part of Harmony’s Project Lead the Way (PLTW) program, which seeks to provide career pathways in computer science, engineering and biomedical science to secondary students through hands-on learning, problem-solving, and innovative classroom instructional methods.

Their schools are both located in Harmony Public Schools’ Houston South/West District, a TEA “A” Rated district comprised of 12 campuses in South Houston, Katy, Sugar Land, and Beaumont. Both campuses also were “A” Rated by the TEA for 2019-2020.
