Washington, DC—Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today issued the following statement in response to news that the Trump Administration intends to withdraw U.S. troops from northern Syria:
“As a former Navy pilot who flew missions in the Middle East and fully appreciates the sacrifices our troops have made to protect us from ISIS, I reject any early withdrawal from Syria. This action threatens American security and weakens credibility among our allies. Withdrawal of U.S. forces would reignite ISIS, embolden terrorists and gratify Iran — three mistakes the United States cannot afford to make.”
