Operation Homefront Now Accepting Applications from Military Families for New Transitional Home in Houston, Texas

Houston – Operation Homefront, the national nonprofit whose mission is to build strong, stable, and secure military families, announced that it is now accepting applications from veterans and military families for a new transitional home in Katy, Texas, outside of Houston.  The home is the latest addition to Operation Homefront’s Transitional Homes for Community Reintegration (THCR) Program, which is designed to help veterans and their families as they transition from the military into civilian communities.

Through the THCR program, a veteran – within 12 months of discharge and who has served honorably – and his/her family, will receive temporary rent-free single-family housing, financial education, and support services.  The family will work with a caseworker and financial counselor to create realistic financial, educational, employment, and personal goal plans.  The two-to-three year-long program prepares families for home ownership, and provides skills needed to improve credit scores, pay off debt, accumulate emergency savings, and establish ties to the community they reside in.

The new 1,648 square-foot one-story home, built with pre-determined specifications, features three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a two-car attached garage, and includes an open concept dining and family room giving space to host large gatherings.  The home is located just half an hour from metro-Houston and is off Interstate 10 with a nearby shopping mall and center.  Houston Methodist Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital are also a short distance from this community.

The veteran must be willing to work towards self-sufficiency during this program.  They will be required to pay a monthly fee, which will be refunded upon program graduation.  Families will also be responsible for utility costs, while Operation Homefront will provide lawn care and landscaping.

Operation Homefront’s Transitional Homes for Community Reintegration program was made possible by the generous support of our corporate and foundation partners, who are committed to honoring our nation’s veterans and military families.  The Houston home is the seventh location opened by Operation Homefront since August 2018, and the program will open one more THCR homes for application later this year.
