‘Refining Fire’ promotes healing to wounded church fellowships

Author Duane C. Eastman’s book encourages love, unity in congregation

The volatile, destructive and divisive political emotion today has once again invited some churches to take political stands. The result is division in the church and thereby a wounding of many souls. Duane C Eastman was a pastor and most of the churches he served were wounded, either from congregational conflict or pastoral dysfunction. He wrote the book “Refining Fire” (published by WestBow Press) to provide motivation, method and measure of success for a church.

“This is a book for healing wounded churches.  When a church experiences conflict, it results in wounded people.  Healing for the church involves a healing of the people involved,” Eastman describes his book.

If similar books provide guidelines on how to grow a congregation, “Refining Fire” promotes how to become a better church. The story is in the exercise of grace and forgiveness so that love and care can replace anger and division in the lives of people who have been damaged by church conflict. Instead of getting bigger, it is getting better, as in being healed and united in the ministry of the gospel.

“My prayer is that pastors and laity of wounded churches will be inspired to apply the teaching and principles of this book so that they can begin to experience liberation from the bondage of conflict and know the joy of emerging into a fellowship of love and unity.  I would also hope that it could be used in educational institutions of training men and women for ministry so that they are equipped to lead a wounded congregation out of the chaos of division,” Eastman shares.
