Lori Schweigert shares ‘My Large Wild Animal Book’

New educational children’s book is about large wild animals of North America

Lori Schweigert has been a hunter education instructor in North Dakota since 1978. Every year they had an annual conference. In 2005 and 2008, they had Dr. Valerius Geist, a well-known environmental scientist from Canada as their guest speaker. In one of his lectures, he asked a question that stayed with Schweigert for years. That question was why there were no books for children about conservation. It inspired her in writing “My Large Wild Animal Book” (published by Xlibris).

This is an educational children’s book about the large wild animals of North America. It shows pictures of each animal as the adult male, adult female and the baby animal. It also gives the reader the animal name, a brief description of its habitat, where it lives and what kinds of foods it eats.

“This book starts out as a picture book for babies and toddlers to elementary school children. It is written with basic information about these animals helping the child to learn and pique their interest in these animals,” Schweigert says. “Hopefully, it will also bring to mind that the needs of wild animals, their habitat and foods that are important for life.”

Growing up in a rural state, Schweigert was able to view the wildlife in their natural setting. She started to learn about habitat and conservation as a student in school. In her teaching the Hunter Education course, she learned more over the years, the importance of conservation and the need to balance the needs of man and wild animals.
