It’s “Academy” Awards time for Katy sports athletes for the first half of the 2016-2017 school year. But the players receiving honors are not actors playing parts, but the real McCoy. Congratulations to these great young men and women on their accomplishments .

Football
AP Class 6A All-State team
The Houston area landed seven athletes on the Texas Associated Press Sports Editors Class 6A All-State football first team. District 19-6A had five players listed:
First Team Offense; Deondrick Glass, Katy Tigers; Second Team Defense; Max Wright, Taylor Mustangs
Honorable Mention-Offense: Camron Horry and Ean Beek, Taylor Mustangs
Honorable Mention-Defense: Corey Bethley, Katy Tigers

Houston Chronicle All-Greater Houston Football Team

First Team Defense
Defensive lineman: Corey Bethley, Katy Tigers…four sacks and five tackles for loss during the regular season
First Team Offense
Running back: Deondrick Glass, Katy Tigers…1,912 yards and 30 touchdowns, including two, five-touchdown games and two more with four-touchdowns.
Offensive Lineman: Hayden Howerton, Katy Tigers …. Howerton helped lead the way for an offense that averaged 402.4 yards per game.
