6:30 pm: Fulshear Book Clubs Announce September Reading Selections

Share your love of reading with other book lovers at one of the book clubs that meet monthly at Fort Bend County Libraries’ Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library,

The next meeting of the Day Readers Book Club will take place on Monday, September 12, beginning at 12:00 noon, in the Meeting Room of the library. The book to be discussed is Old Heart, written by Peter Ferry. Call the library to check availability of print copies. This book club meets on the second Monday of every month.

The Fulshear Night Readers Guild will meet on Monday, September 26, beginning at 6:30 pm, in the Meeting Room of the library. The book to be discussed is Miracle Creek, written by Angie Kim. This title is available in print and digitally as an ebook on OverDrive and as an e-audiobook on Hoopla; call the library to check availability of additional print copies. This book club meets on the last Monday of every month.

10:30 am: Get Ready For The Holidays At Cinco Ranch Branch Library Programs

It’s never too soon to start preparing for the holiday season! Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library will present two programs in October to start off the fall and winter holidays.

Professional Holiday Portraits on a Budget” will take place on Saturday, October 1, from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon, in the Meeting Room of the library.

Learn how to take professional-looking holiday portraits with lighting equipment commonly found around one’s house or garage. Hands-on demonstrations will be provided during the presentation, using both a digital SLR camera and an iPhone camera. This class is presented by professional photographer Bryan Bankston, who specializes in creative-lighting techniques.

Harvest-Themed Watercolor Greeting Cards” will take place on Friday, October 7, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, in the Conference Room of the library.

Get tips on how to make beautiful, personalized greeting cards with watercolor paint. Materials for this class are provided courtesy of the Friends of the Cinco Ranch Branch Library. Reservations are required.

2:00 pm: Learn About Using Linkedin At Cinco Ranch Branch Library Program

Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Librarwill present a special program, “Introduction to LinkedIn,” on Wednesday, October 12, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, in the Computer Lab of the library, located at 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Katy.

LinkedIn is the world’s largest social-media network for professionals and is a great vehicle for connecting with other business people. Find out how to make the best use of LinkedIn to network and engage with contacts and businesses. Learn how to create a profile, and become familiar with online etiquette in the LinkedIn virtual community.

12:00 pm: Needlecrafters Invited To Nifty Needlers Club At Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library

Needlework enthusiasts are invited to a monthly “Nifty Needlers” club at Fort Bend County Libraries’ Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library on Friday, October 21, between 12:00 noon and 1:30 pm, in the Meeting Room of the library, located at 8100 FM 359 South in Fulshear. Share tips, get ideas and inspiration, and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow needlecrafters!

People of all experience levels who enjoy any type of crocheting, knitting, or sewing are invited to attend to get other needlecrafters’ perspectives, critiques, and suggestions.

Those attending should bring their own yarn, strings, and needles to start or finish a project, while chatting, networking, and enjoying the company of fellow needlecrafters.

Samples of the library’s instructional books, magazines, and websites on various crafts will be available.

Fort Bend County Libraries’ Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library, 8100 FM 359 South in Fulshear, presents free children’s programs every month.

Family Story Time takes place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 10:30 to 11:00 am, in the Meeting Room of the library. Families with children of all ages will enjoy stories, songs, and action rhymes. Craft packets will be given out at the end of each program, so that children may take them home to enjoy.

Each week has a different theme. The schedule for November is as follows:

  • November 1 and 2 – Forest Friends
  • November 8 and 9 – Monkeys
  • November 15 and 16 – Music & Dance
  • November 22 and 23 – Family
  • November 29 and 30 -- Dinosaurs

The After-School Break -- crafts, stories, and more for school-aged children in grades 1 through 5 – will take place on Thursday, November 17, from 4:30 to 5:30 pm, in the Meeting Room. The activity will be “Collaborative Art Day.” Students will work together as a group to create a masterpiece to be displayed in the library.

Materials for these programs are generously made possible by the Friends of the Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library.

Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library, 2620 Commercial Center Boulevard in Katy, presents a variety of free children’s programs – Family Story Time, Pajama Night Story Time, and After-School Breaks – every month. Because of elections and holidays, the schedule of children’s programs will be abbreviated in November.

Family Story Time takes place on Wednesdays and Thursdays, beginning at 10:15 and 11:30 am, in the Meeting Room. Families with children of all ages will enjoy stories, songs, and action rhymes. Craft packets will be given out at the end of each program, so that children may take them home to enjoy.

The schedule of Family Story Time activities is as follows:

November 2 and 3 – NO PROGRAMS

November 9 – NO PROGRAMS

November 10 – Manners

November 16 and 17 – Bears

November 23 – Food

November 24 – LIBRARY CLOSED

November 30 – Dance Party

Pajama Night Story Time – an evening alternative for families unable to attend during the day – will take place on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, from 6:00 to 6:30 pm. This program will NOT take place on November 1. The theme on November 15 will be “Bears.”

Kinder Korner will not take place in November because of elections.

After-School Break: Rock Painting” will take place on Wednesday, November 16, from 4:30 to 5:00 pm, in Meeting Room 2. This activity is for students in grades 1 through 5.
