In recognition of National Native American Heritage Month in November, Fort Bend County Libraries will host an online program on “Native Americans in Texas” on Tuesday, November 9, from 3:00 to 4:30 pm. This presentation will be live-streamed via Webex, so viewers may enjoy it from home.
Dr. Nicholas Cox, a professor of U.S. and Texas History at Houston Community College, will provide a geographic and chronological overview of Native American life in Texas, from prehistoric to modern times. Special focus will be on the 19th-century experience of the Caddo, Cherokee, Apache, and Comanche tribes in Texas.
Dr. Cox received his doctorate degree in U.S. History from the University of Houston. In addition to his work at Houston Community College, Dr. Cox has taught at the Bronx Academy of Letters in New York City, the University of Houston, and UH-Victoria. He is a member of the Texas State Historical Association.
This online event is free and open to the public. Registration is required. A link for the live-streamed event will be sent to all who register.
