To kick off the new year in January, Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library, 2620 Commercial Center Boulevard in Katy, is adding several new programs – including Mother Goose Time for infants -- to its regular schedule of youth activities!
Mother Goose Time -- for pre-walking infants from age 1 month to 12 months – will take place on Tuesdays, from 10:15 to 10:45 am. This activity provides caregiver/infant multisensory circle-time activities -- including simple sign language, folksongs and lullabies, and finger plays -- that are especially designed to stimulate babies’ social, emotional, and physical development through rhythm and music. Attendance is limited and registration is required.
Stretches & Stories – for families with children of all ages -- will take place on Thursdays, January 5 and 19, from 4:30 to 5:00 pm. Families will enjoy stories, participating in gentle yoga and dance, and learn calming breathing techniques. Families may bring yoga mats.
Family Game Night will take place on Monday, January 9, from 6:00 to 6:45 pm, in the Meeting Room. Families with children of all ages are invited to play a variety of strategy and classic board games. Hear tips and tricks to help advance skill levels.
Family Build Night will take place on Monday, January 23, from 6:00 to 6:45 pm, in the Meeting Room. Families with children of all ageswill enjoy a fun-filled building challenge using LEGOs and other mixed materials during this free-play time.
Creative Connections – activities for school-aged children in grades 4 through 8 – will take place on the 2nd and 4th Thursday, from 4:30 to 5:00 pm. The schedule of activities is as follows:
January 12 – Hour of Code. Students will learn about coding and improve their skills by playing coding games. This activity will take place in the Computer Lab.
January 26 – Game Day. Students will explore different strategy board games. This activity will take place in the Multi-purpose Room.

Are you learning to speak English? Would you like some practice in a casual, informal atmosphere? Fort Bend County Libraries presents a program for individuals of all nationalities who would like a place to practice their English language and conversation skills. The “ESLConversation Circles” provide an opportunity for non-English-speaking people to gather in a relaxed setting, and discuss topics of their own choosing while practicing their English skills.
The ESL Conversation Circles will take place at multiple locations in the Fort Bend County library system in January. Reservations are NOT required. The schedule is as follows:

Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library will present an introductory program, “Photography 101,” on Saturday, January 7, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, in the Computer Lab of the library, located at 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Katy.
Presented by library staff member Bryan Bankston, who also happens to be a professional photographer, the workshop will provide an opportunity for amateur photographers to learn basic principles of photography and to maximize use of their camera.
Learn about different choices to consider when purchasing a camera, such as megapixels, sensor size, lens, battery, memory card, and LCD options. Explore the basics of camera settings, including aperture, shutter speed, ISO and white balance, and their effects on exposure.
Get composition tips on how to make your photos more expressive and artistic. Finally, hear about lighting options, including available light, flash, and other possibilities in poor lighting situations.

To encouragecreativity and reduce waste through reusing and repurposing, Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library will have a Community Art Swap on Saturday, January 28, in the Meeting Room of the library, located at 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Katy.
Between January 9 and 23, artists are encouraged to clean out their art supplies and donate any unwanted art materials in good, usable condition. Materials should be brought to the library during business hours no later than January 23.
Artists who bring their unused arts supplies during this period will receive a ticket for special early access (10:30 am to 2:00 pm) to the Community Art Swap on January 28.
After 2:00 pm, on January 28, the event is open to everyone, including those who did not contribute supplies during the donation period. Free art supplies can be claimed by anyone after 2:00 pm, while supplies last.
This is an excellent way for anyone who is thinking about trying art as a hobby to pick up start-up materials without investing a large amount of money.

Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library invites aspiring authors to participate in a new monthly workshop, the Prose Pros Writing Group, on Monday, January 9, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm, in the Conference Classroom of the library, located at 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Katy.
Adults and older teens can take advantage of the library’s space, quiet atmosphere, seating, power outlets, and snacks to kick-start their literary masterpiece! Those attending are encouraged to bring their laptop and anything else needed for quality writing time. Cinco Ranch Branch Library Adds New Programs For Infants & Families To Weekly Youth Activities

To kick off the new year in January, Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library, 2620 Commercial Center Boulevard in Katy, is adding several new programs – including Mother Goose Time for infants -- to its regular schedule of youth activities!
Mother Goose Time -- for pre-walking infants from age 1 month to 12 months – will take place on Tuesdays, from 10:15 to 10:45 am. This activity provides caregiver/infant multisensory circle-time activities -- including simple sign language, folksongs and lullabies, and finger plays -- that are especially designed to stimulate babies’ social, emotional, and physical development through rhythm and music. Attendance is limited and registration is required.
Stretches & Stories – for families with children of all ages -- will take place on Thursdays, January 5 and 19, from 4:30 to 5:00 pm. Families will enjoy stories, participating in gentle yoga and dance, and learn calming breathing techniques. Families may bring yoga mats.
Family Game Night will take place on Monday, January 9, from 6:00 to 6:45 pm, in the Meeting Room. Families with children of all ages are invited to play a variety of strategy and classic board games. Hear tips and tricks to help advance skill levels.
Family Build Night will take place on Monday, January 23, from 6:00 to 6:45 pm, in the Meeting Room. Families with children of all ageswill enjoy a fun-filled building challenge using LEGOs and other mixed materials during this free-play time.
Creative Connections – activities for school-aged children in grades 4 through 8 – will take place on the 2nd and 4th Thursday, from 4:30 to 5:00 pm. The schedule of activities is as follows:
January 12 – Hour of Code. Students will learn about coding and improve their skills by playing coding games. This activity will take place in the Computer Lab.
January 26 – Game Day. Students will explore different strategy board games. This activity will take place in the Multi-purpose Room.
In addition to these new activities, the library will continue to present its regular schedule of free children’s programs – Family Story Time, Pajama Night Story Time, Kinder Korner, and After-School Breaks – throughout the month of January.

The classes will consist of a hands-on introduction to basic skills for people who would like to learn more about using these computer programs. The computer classes will take place in the Computer Lab of the library.
“MS Word 2016 Survival Basics” will take place on Tuesday, January 10, from 10:15 to 11:30 am. Learn the basics of using this word-processing software program to create letters, resumés, forms, and other types of documents.

Are you learning to speak English? Would you like some practice in a casual, informal atmosphere? Fort Bend County Libraries presents a program for individuals of all nationalities who would like a place to practice their English language and conversation skills. The “ESLConversation Circles” provide an opportunity for non-English-speaking people to gather in a relaxed setting, and discuss topics of their own choosing while practicing their English skills.
The ESL Conversation Circles will take place at multiple locations in the Fort Bend County library system in January. Reservations are NOT required. The schedule is as follows:

Fort Bend County Libraries presents a program for individuals of all nationalities who would like a place to practice their English language and conversation skills. The “ESLConversation Circles” provide an opportunity for non-English-speaking people to gather in a relaxed setting, and discuss topics of their own choosing while practicing their English skills.

To encouragecreativity and reduce waste through reusing and repurposing, Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library will have a Community Art Swap on Saturday, January 28, in the Meeting Room of the library, located at 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Katy.
Between January 9 and 23, artists are encouraged to clean out their art supplies and donate any unwanted art materials in good, usable condition. Materials should be brought to the library during business hours no later than January 23.
Artists who bring their unused arts supplies during this period will receive a ticket for special early access (10:30 am to 2:00 pm) to the Community Art Swap on January 28.
After 2:00 pm, on January 28, the event is open to everyone, including those who did not contribute supplies during the donation period. Free art supplies can be claimed by anyone after 2:00 pm, while supplies last.
This is an excellent way for anyone who is thinking about trying art as a hobby to pick up start-up materials without investing a large amount of money.

Stretches & Stories – for families with children of all ages -- will take place on Thursdays, January 5 and 19, from 4:30 to 5:00 pm. Families will enjoy stories, participating in gentle yoga and dance, and learn calming breathing techniques. Families may bring yoga mats.
Family Game Night will take place on Monday, January 9, from 6:00 to 6:45 pm, in the Meeting Room. Families with children of all ages are invited to play a variety of strategy and classic board games. Hear tips and tricks to help advance skill levels.
Family Build Night will take place on Monday, January 23, from 6:00 to 6:45 pm, in the Meeting Room. Families with children of all ageswill enjoy a fun-filled building challenge using LEGOs and other mixed materials during this free-play time.
