The 10th annual Lonestar Safety Fest returns to Typhoon Texas on Oct. 3, bringing first responders, emergency vehicles, live demonstrations and family safety education together for one of the organization’s biggest celebrations yet.
KATY, Texas — For 10 years, an event that started in a small Katy-area parking lot has worked to bring families and first responders together around one simple purpose: building a safer and better-prepared community.
On Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, Lonestar Safety Fest will celebrate its 10th anniversary at Typhoon Texas in Katy from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The milestone event will bring together firefighters, law-enforcement officers, EMS professionals, military personnel, disaster-response organizations and other public-safety partners for a full day of demonstrations, equipment displays, education and family activities.
Lonestar Safety Fest’s message is straightforward: Prevent. Prepare. Connect.
From a small event to a 10-year tradition
The event launched in 2016 as Katy Area Safety Fest, beginning in a small movie theater parking lot.
Over the following decade, the festival expanded along with the number of agencies, organizations, volunteers and families participating.
In 2025, organizers renamed the event Lonestar Safety Fest to reflect that growth and its expanding partnerships with public-safety organizations throughout the Greater Houston region.
The name may have changed, but the purpose remains centered on connecting the public directly with the people who respond when emergencies happen.
This year’s 10th anniversary gives families an opportunity to see how much that mission has grown.
Meet the people behind the uniform 
One of the biggest parts of Lonestar Safety Fest is the opportunity for families — particularly children — to interact directly with first responders.
Instead of seeing a fire engine, ambulance or law-enforcement vehicle only during an emergency, visitors can get a closer look at the equipment while meeting the men and women who use it.
The festival is expected to feature representatives from fire departments, law enforcement, EMS, military organizations and disaster-response agencies.
For children, that can mean seeing emergency equipment up close and talking directly with first responders.
For adults, it can mean asking questions, learning more about emergency preparedness and understanding resources that are available before an emergency ever occurs.
That personal connection is an important part of what has kept Safety Fest growing for a decade.
Safety education families can actually experience
Lonestar Safety Fest is not designed to be an event where families simply walk from booth to booth.
Organizers say the festival includes live safety demonstrations, emergency vehicle displays, interactive educational exhibits, first-responder meet-and-greets and family-friendly safety activities.
That hands-on approach gives families an opportunity to learn about safety in an environment that is approachable and engaging.
It also gives participating agencies an opportunity to meet residents when there is no emergency happening.
Those conversations can matter.
When a child has already met a firefighter, police officer or paramedic in a positive environment, the uniform and equipment may be a little more familiar during an actual emergency.
And when parents have access to public-safety professionals, they have an opportunity to ask questions about preparedness before those answers are urgently needed.
Firefighter Combat Challenge returns
The 10th anniversary celebration will also feature the Firefighter Combat Challenge, adding another major attraction to this year’s festival.
The competition showcases the strength, endurance and training required of firefighters while giving the public an opportunity to see some of those physical skills firsthand. Lonestar Safety Fest identifies the challenge as one of the major features planned for the anniversary event. For spectators, it adds competition and excitement.
But behind that competition is something more important: a look at the physical preparation first responders undertake to perform difficult work under demanding conditions.
Ten years powered by volunteers and partnerships
Lonestar Safety Fest is a volunteer-run organization.
Organizers credit community businesses, partner agencies and volunteers with making an event of this size possible. The organization says the festival now brings together thousands of families, first responders and community partners.
That community support will be especially visible as the festival marks its first decade.
