Former Fort Bend County Judge KP George Sentenced to 180 Days in Jail, 5 Years Probation

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas — Former Fort Bend County Judge KP George was sentenced Tuesday to 180 days in county jail, five years of probation, and a $5,000 fine following his conviction on felony money laundering charges. The court also ordered his removal from office. George was taken into custody after the sentencing hearing and has indicated he plans to appeal the conviction.

George was found guilty in March after prosecutors argued that he transferred approximately $46,500 in campaign funds through personal bank accounts and used portions of the money for personal expenses, including a down payment on a home. Prosecutors told jurors the transactions were designed to conceal the source and use of the funds. George’s defense team maintained that the money originated from George himself and that the transfers were legal movements between accounts under his control. The jury ultimately rejected that argument and returned a guilty verdict.

According to court records and trial testimony, the money laundering charges stemmed from campaign finance activities dating back to George’s time in office. The conviction carried a potential punishment ranging from two to ten years in prison. Instead of ordering a prison sentence, the judge suspended a longer sentence and imposed probation conditions that include jail time and supervision.

George had already been suspended from office earlier this year, with Daniel Wong appointed as interim Fort Bend County Judge. Following Tuesday’s sentencing, the court formally removed George from the position.

The former county judge also continues to face separate legal issues, including a misdemeanor case involving allegations of online identity misrepresentation connected to a fake social media account. That matter remains pending.

George’s legal team has stated that they intend to appeal the conviction and sentence. Under Texas law, the appeals process could take months or longer before the case reaches a final resolution.

What Happens Next?

  • KP George will serve a 180-day county jail sentence.
  • He has been placed on probation for five years.
  • He was officially removed from office.
  • Appeals are expected to be filed.
  • Fort Bend County will continue operating under interim leadership while the legal process moves forward.

The sentencing marks a significant development in one of the most closely watched political corruption cases in recent Fort Bend County history and brings an end to George’s tenure as the county’s top elected official.
