Among the major mental challenges that plague us, these are the 5 Mental Challenges that you can upgrade in your mindset quickly and with significant results. They are:
- MENTAL BLINDNESS: As discussed last time, awareness is a deeper, thorough understanding of not only what you say, do and belief. But awareness also includes the true meaning for why we tend to yell at or taunt our friends, employees and teammates. A mental blindness prevents awareness, and it plagues the majority of people you meet. This habit protects you somewhat, but also holds you back from your best self, the one who does ask for a promotion, a second chance. “Turning a blind eye” and “hear no evil, see no evil…” are phrases from history of those who chose to ignore the truth their authentic choices. To break this mold, it’s important to tell yourself you cope well with challenge, and you can overcome all obstacles. That daily mantra inspires change over 60+ days of routine when mixed with the introduction of mindfulness, meditation and compassion. The more I help others, the more I see how I can impact millions of lives.
- COMPLACENCY: “Over time… we’ve mastered the art of sleepwalking through life. Our responses to everything have become predictable.” Don Miguel Ruiz, The Three Questions Complacency is creating a comfort zone in an average or uncomfortable place. It’s the human autopilot, getting us to our morning events without much cognitive thought or awareness. Dr. Joe Dispenza calls it the body acting for the mind. To break this habit, you need only add new things to your daily to-do list. Try little things like brushing your teeth with the other hand, face the wrong way in the elevator, drive a different way to school or work. Then consider each day the value of the new path, and embrace what works for you. Over time, work up to reading two inspiring, non-fiction books monthly, career change and learning what values truly work for you.
- SCARCITY: A belief that love, success or money is beyond you or only available for others can limit the best among us to a life of doubt, stress and negativity. Scarcity is typically a chronic mindset reinforced by fear. A scarcity outlook suggests that life is hard, and you must sacrifice happiness and suffer to get ahead. However if you choose to see that even one person can live happily and free from scarcity, then that belief is broken for good as you transport yourself to take action based on beliefs associated with joy, love, freedom and peace.
- PRIDE/EGO: Tapping into our intuition or feelings is far from trusting your ego, pride or willpower. That triumvirate is often focused on forcing an outcome through brute force, overwork, intimidation and/or fear. However, if you balance the educated, logical conscious mind with the intuitive, creative, elevated feelings we all experience, then you can make better decisions. Running with pride alone has historically been a path destined for doom, even though it is a popular method of daily operation today. Strive for a balanced approach.
- VICTIM MENTALITY: “Man’s greatest delusion is his conviction that there are causes other than his own state of consciousness.” — Neville Goddard The victim mentality suggests you cannot win in your endeavors, and you must go where life sends you as an insignificant observer in the universe. It’s a cruel story that taunts us that we are not good enough to control our destiny. When we live in love, we believe in ourselves, our future, hope and possibility. When we live in fear/anger, most tend to believe that they are victims of outside influences that prevent their success, joy, abundance.
The significance of these related beliefs is they can become true if you accept them as the norm. Any of these fearful five can limit one lifetime or generations.
Those who challenge these five, low-esteem obstacles should know that it took decades for you to learn to see these limitations as a normal mode of living, probably when you were a youth. It will take consistent elevated emotion, discipline and action to upgrade those beliefs to a higher plane.
You may not have heard this before. But you are a creator, and your future can be directly influenced by your words, thoughts, beliefs and actions. That requires you to be fighting for your desired goals and dreams however while believing they are already within your grasp. Sitting on the couch and watching actors pretend to live a fictional, TV existences for money is not actively creative behavior. It’s passive activity, and that is how we are programmed to believe that we are merely victims by a television program.
Why do you think they call it programming?
Everything you see, hear, read, feel, etc. influences your mind, either confirming your previous upbringing, learning, training or contradicting it. Awareness allows you to see the stark difference and choose the light instead of a darker path led by manipulation, fear or depression.

Everyone faces challenges to their peace of mind when adversity or trauma arrives. You can only control your internal mindset, not the external world. For those who see themselves as victimized, every external change can be a reason for anxiety. (Photo by Terry Carter/UDPhotos)
