Biden had long looked the most likely to win the race for the White house and also went in as the short-priced betting favourite. This included heavy support by punters in New York, using the offers available at bet-ny.com, as he won by a landslide in the state, with 60.9% of the vote. There was much support behind him but also on his challenger and current President Donald Trump, who came in for a lot of late support in the betting markets for another term. However, this did not materialise, and he lost the vote, on what was the most supported single market in the history of betting. That was due to the world watching the run up and the importance of the result, in what is an incredibly difficult period for so many people around the world. The victory meant Biden landed the odds for those who got involved and is now set for the White house, as he becomes the 46th President of the United states.
There had been four battle ground states to watch and are usually key in deciding who wins the race. Four of these included the likes of Arizona, Florida, Georgia and Michigan. They were also very open and difficult to call in the run up to the election and the result was set to pave the way for the victory. Arizona had last voted a Democrat for President in 1996, so there is no doubt that the Republicans were favourites for the state. The Democrats had managed to gain a number of seats in the 2018 midterms and eventually turned this around with a victory, that has since been disputed by Trump and his team. The 11 electoral votes went to the Democrats as they gained 49.4% of the vote, in comparison to 49.1% for Trump.
Georgia has also long been a stronghold for the Republicans, but this has been changing and came to fruition, with Biden winning with 49.5% of the vote, in comparison to 49.3% for Trump. This proved to be one of the key results in the victory for Biden, which was expected to prove the case in the run up to the election. Biden was also able to pick up Michigan and those important 16 electoral college votes. This saw him gain 50.6% of the vote, with Trump just 47.8%. Trump had previously won Michigan by just 0.2 percentage points in 2016, which further shows just how big a turn around this was for the Democrats. This was another major result for them in the victory.
Trump had managed to pick up an early victory in Florida, which led many to believe he was set to retain his position in the White House. He won with 51.2% of the vote, in comparison to just 47.9% for Biden. This had appeared a key victory for the President, but this has now proved not to be the case, as Biden is now set to become the next President of the United States.
