Santa Claus helped Mayor Chuck Brawner and wife Marcy with the lighting of the 46th annual Mayor’s Christmas Tree Thursday night at City Hal, 901 Avenue C.
To join the crowd for this Katy tradition, he arrived in style, courtesy of a Katy Fire Department truck with lights flashing and siren blaring. The sleigh and reindeer were parked elsewhere this evening.
Santa brought with him an early Christmas gift—he stopped the rain and drizzle so those attending the event could enjoy it without getting wet.
The event included performances by a choir from Katy Elementary School, 5728 George Bush Dr., and a dance team from Juleigh Holley’s School of Dance, 27025 Highway Blvd.
Santa Claus remained to visit and pose for photos.
He will also be making two local appearances Saturday. The first is at the Pancakes with Santa breakfast, which is being put on by the Katy Professional Fire Fighters Association. That event is set for 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Katy Fire Station, 1417 Avenue D. Cost is $5. Funds raised will support the association in sending a Katy Independent School District student to the fire academy/EMT school or to paramedic school.
The second event is the Ninth Annual Katy Old-Fashioned Christmas Festival, which runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Katy. The event is free and features food trucks, a snow park, and a beer garden. The event is organized by Katy market Day and No Label Brewing Co. Canned goods will be donated to a local food pantry. Proceeds from the event will benefit a local charity. For more information, see katymarketday.com.
