“As someone personally connected to this mission, I understand firsthand the challenges that can come with a type 2 diabetes diagnosis. This event is a powerful opportunity to raise awareness, foster meaningful connections, and share practical strategies that empower individuals to make sustainable lifestyle changes. We are especially grateful to Dr. Esperanza “Hope” Galvan and Harris Health for helping lead the way in bringing this important event to life, as well as to all of our wonderful sponsors and partners whose support makes this work possible. Together, we’re building a healthier Houston—one conversation, one connection, and one step at a time,” said Shataria Greene, the ADA’s executive director in South Central Texas.
Over 40 million Americans are living with diabetes, and every 21 seconds, someone is newly diagnosed. In Texas, approximately 3,200,000 adults, or 12.9% of the adult population, have diagnosed diabetes. Each year, an estimated 245,000 adults in the state are diagnosed. Additionally, approximately 36% of the adult population are living with obesity.
State of Diabetes is an annual community event that brings together employers, payers, healthcare professionals, and community leaders for meaningful discussions around diabetes and obesity prevention, treatment, cost, workplace wellness, and improving access to care.
This year’s event will feature an expert panel discussion: From Diabetes & Obesity Guidelines to Outcomes: Translating Evidence Into Real-World Practice.
The event will include:
- A panel discussion led by distinguished experts sharing insights on diabetes and obesity
- A networking reception providing opportunities for attendees to collaborate and share ideas
- Interactive breakout activities designed to encourage deeper engagement on diabetes- and obesity-related topics
- The opportunity to connect during a post-event mixer for ADA professional members or those interested in learning more about ADA professional membership
Attendees will also receive a variety of ADA resources designed to enhance diabetes prevention, management, and support, as well as access to a digital action-oriented toolkit summarizing key insights and strategies.
This year’s event is sponsored by Harris Health, Fresenius, Abbott Rapid, Abbott Lingo, and Cigna.
