Seats are limited to two free health programs at the Cinco Ranch Branch Library taking place in early August, so register as soon as possible. Although unrelated to one another, these two programs address health and how foods affect it, for better or worse.
On Aug. 4, a health education specialist will be on-site at the library to discuss nutrition and “smart grocery shopping” during the workshop, “Eating Well, Saving More, Wasting Less.”
Ryan Gant, a community health education specialist from the Fort Bend County Health & Human Services -Community Health and Wellness Division, will present this nutrition-focused library workshop from 6 – 7:30 pm in the Meeting Room.
During the program, Gant will highlight the importance of “smart grocery shopping,” or rather, understanding food product dating, nutrition fact labels, and family meal planning.
On Aug. 8, Fort Bend County Master Gardener Melody Lindley will discuss medicinal herbs during the free library lecture, “Herbs: Nature’s Pharmacy – A Look at Medicinal Herbs,” from 11 am – 12 noon in the Meeting Room.
Lindley has been a Certified Master Gardener with Fort Bend County since 2020. She earned her Master Gardener Advanced Training certifications in Herbs (2024) — with a focus on medical herbs and poisonous plants — and Junior Master Gardener Youth Activities (2022).
During this lecture, Lindley will speak about the healing power of plants, explore the fascinating world of medicinal herbs, and provide insight into how plants have supported wellness across cultures and centuries. Attendees will also learn about a variety of medicinal herbs, many of which can be grown in Texas.
