KATY, TX [November 20, 2024] – Continuing their year of growth and learning, students in Katy ISD’s Student Athlete Leadership Team (S.A.L.T.) cohort spent the day stuffing more than 4,500 packets for participants in the 22nd annual Turkey Dash, benefitting the Monty Ballard YMCA at Cinco Ranch.
This is one of several community service projects the students will participate in this school year as part of S.A.L.T. The program aims to develop these student leaders, through sportsmanship, adversity, leadership, and time for outreach.
“Through service, these student athletes will be able to see the strength of their influence in their communities and throughout Katy ISD,” said Lance Carter, Executive Director of Athletics in Katy ISD. “They’ll also see how their small acts can make a huge difference.”
The students began the year in a kickoff seminar held this summer, where keynote speaker Stephen Mackey, founder and CEO of the 2Words character development program, and district leaders led the students in a day of leader development.
S.A.L.T. is comprised of nearly 350 Katy ISD student-athletes, representing every high school and all UIL sports. They were nominated to participate in the program by a member of their campus coaching staff for their leadership potential and commitment to excellence.
