
What: The Galveston Sandcastle Festival features more than 40 teams building elaborate, professionally designed and multi-tiered sandcastles competing for top honors. The expanded two-day event also hosts live music, food trucks, sandcastle lessons and an amateur sandcastle competition.
This year’s event is a collaboration among the Galveston Park Board, La Izquierda Fest and the Houston Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
Where: Galveston East Beach, 1923 Apffel Rd, Galveston, TX 77550
When: The signature event on Saturday Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. is the traditional sandcastle building contest with teams from AIA.
Sunday Sept. 22 brings new programming including a Sunday Brunch with food trucks and a Beachside Bloody Mary Battle at 11a.m. A Sunday highlight is the inaugural amateur Sandcastle Building Contest for individuals. Also on Sunday, East Beach visitors can view the sandcastle structures created Saturday. Regional and local bands will perform throughout the days on Saturday and Sunday.
Admission: There is a $15 fee to park at the beach. Entry to the festival is an additional $10.
Transportation: There will be a free shuttle service from Stewart Beach to East Beach on Saturday Sept. 21
