Legacy Parent Academy Begins Year with Webinar on Teen Mental Health

KATY, TX [September 5, 2024] – Since its launch in September 2018, the Katy ISD Legacy Parent Academy has been empowering parents with the knowledge and resources to more effectively support their children on current issues. The first webinar of the new school year, titled “It’s Real: Mental Health in Teens,” is scheduled for Wednesday, September 11.

The webinar will provide parents and guardians with information on mental health, signs of someone in need and tips on how to have a caring conversation. Visitors can join the webinar with this link.

The webinar will be held from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. and will be presented by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

“We continue to provide our families with information on social-emotional topics because we know that these things can impact students’ learning and performance in school,” said Anne McHale Miller, LCSW-S, Coordinator for School Leadership and Support in Katy ISD. “This year’s offerings will be a hybrid of in-person and online opportunities.”

Katy ISD’s Legacy Parent Academy is a series of informational sessions designed to assist parents by raising awareness on social-emotional and academic topics that impact students. Visit the Legacy Parent Academy web page to learn more.
