May 5, 8pm – Wells Fargo Presents Cinco de May at Miller: Pasatono Orquesta

An eight-member group dedicated to rescuing and performing traditional Oaxacan music, especially that of the Mixtec region with a contemporary flair.  The group has released four albums; and has toured the United States playing at Lincoln Center, NYC and Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

May 6, 8:15pm – Legends of the Chinese New Year produced by Dance of Asian American and Express Children’s Theatre

Comprised of two acts: “The Legend of the Lunar Festival” and “The Legend of the Lantern Festival” this performance dramatizes the mythical origins of the Chinese New Year. Enjoy actors, dancers, colorful costumes, brilliant music, and visual effects.

May 12, 6pm – Celebrate Miller: It’s Our Birthday! 

Happy 100th Birthday Miller Outdoor Theatre.  Miller Outdoor Theatre celebrates its official 100th Anniversary Birthday on Friday, May 12, 2023, at 6 p.m. with a colossal birthday cake!  Indulge in luscious slices of delicious cake by El Bolillo Bakery served during intermission at the concession stand and of course, snap a photo of yourself, family, and friends “popping” out of the larger-than -life 7-foot “art” cake nestled in the greenery of the Miller Plaza.  Plus enjoy “Life is a Dance,” a mural created by artist Mark DeLeon as part of the season-long celebration which will be on display at Miller that evening and much more.  All capped off by a sparkling performance of “Jewels” by Houston Ballet.

May 12, 8pm – Houston Ballet Presents George Balanchine’s Jewels

Created by George Balanchine in 1967, Jewels, features three acts: “Emeralds,” “Rubies,” and “Diamonds.”  Each act embodies their namesake jewel through the unique musical stylings of their corresponding composer. Last performed by Houston Ballet in February 2022, James Nelson, Executive Director of Houston Ballet said, “Jewels is one of George Balanchine’s master works. It’s a balance of opulence and glamour and technically challenging dancing and a fitting ballet to celebrate Miller’s centennial celebration.”

May 19-20 8pm – La Traviata produced by Houston Grand Opera

One of the world’s most performed and beloved operas, tragedy unfolds as family, classism, and deceit plague Violetta and Alfredo, and true love is shaken to its core.  Perfect for first-time opera goers. 

May 25-27, 8:15pm – Forever Motown

Nine all-star performers make Motown Magic you must not miss! Theo Peoples, the original lead singer of The Four Tops, Glenn Leonard, former lead singer of The Temptations, and Traci Robinson, former lead singer of The Marvelettes harmonize to create a Motown Super Group! You’ll be dancing in your seat.
