Katy ISD Commercial Driver’s License Program Visits High School Campuses

Katy ISD’s Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Student Training and Licensing Program is hitting the road and visiting District high school campuses next week, as part of a districtwide tour.  The tour will provide students a first-hand look at different types of vehicles that require a CDL driver and the trainings associated with those vehicles.  Representatives from Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Services LLC along with administrators from Raines Academy will explain the program curriculum along with the licensing for Class A (no additional endorsement) and Class A with a Class B Passenger/School Bus Endorsement.

“This is a perfect opportunity for students to see if this could be a career opportunity for them after graduating high school,” said Richard Merriman, Principal of Raines Academy.  “The need for CDL drivers across the nation continues to be in high demand.  Due to this necessity, a CDL truck driver can make over $80,000 per year on average,” added Merriman.

The CDL program is open to incoming 12th-grade students turning 18 and interested in obtaining their commercial driver’s license. The program is in partnership with Katy ISD’s Raines Academy and Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Services LLC.
