2023 Cat Lift Trucks Rodeo Scholarship Details

Applicant Eligibility:

To be eligible for the Cat® Lift Trucks Scholarship Program (the “Scholarship”), an applicant (the “Applicant”) must meet the citizenship, residency, academic standing, and college/university/technical school criteria set forth herein.

Citizenship: Applicant must be a citizen of the United States and/or born in the United States and a resident of the state of Texas. If applicant’s place of birth as indicated on the Scholarship application and/or transcript is other than the United States, appropriate proof of citizenship must be furnished. Students with permanent resident status are not eligible to apply.

Residency: Applicant must be a 2022-2023 graduating senior of a Houston area high school.

Academic Standing:  Applicant must be a graduating senior ranked in the upper one-half (1/2)  of his/her graduating class at the completion of his/her junior year. Applicant must have a minimum overall unweighted grade point average of a “B” or 80% and have no expulsions from school on his/her permanent record. Applicant must submit an un-weighted GPA on a 4.0 scale. This ranking is to be verified as part of the official transcript (Spring 2022) or by an accompanying certification from an appropriate school official. Applicant’s scholastic average is to be reported on the Scholarship application and verified on the transcript; average must be expressed as a numerical percentage, for example: 3.5/4.0 equals 87.5%.

Financial Need: Applicant must have a significant financial need in their pursuit of a higher education. Applicant must also exhibit integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity.

Graduation: Applicant must graduate at the end of the spring semester immediately following the award of the Scholarship or be a mid-term graduate at the conclusion of the semester immediately preceding the awarding of the Scholarship.

Collegiate Acceptance/Enrollment: Applicant must enroll or plan to enroll for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year in an accredited college, university, or technical school within the state of Texas for twelve (12) or more semester hours. Applicant must participate in a curriculum leading to a bachelor’s degree or technical certificate in engineering or a business-related field and must have applied for admission at the time the Scholarship application is submitted. In addition, Applicant must indicate choice of major and career planned. No scholarships will be awarded to students who plan to attend schools outside the state of Texas. A scholarship awarded to a  student who planned to attend school in Texas, but who later decides to attend school out of  state, may be rescinded at the sole discretion of Cat Lift Trucks Scholarship Committee.

Narrative: Each applicant must answer all three short answer prompts. Be sure to include your responses in your application if submitting via mail.

Documentation: Each application must be accompanied by an official transcript, from the  spring semester of 2022, showing academic average in numerical percentage, class size and official class ranking of applicant; citizenship status if place of birth is other than the United States; and proof that the applicant has no expulsions on his/her permanent record. The block containing class rank must be filled out by the school registrar where indicated. Incomplete applications will not be accepted for consideration. Evaluation Procedure:

For the purposes of evaluating applications, the Cat Lift Trucks Scholarship Committee will review all properly completed submissions. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants are evaluated based on academics, leadership, community involvement, narrative responses, and financial need.

Each application will be evaluated based on weighted criteria of 25% academics, 15% activities, honors and awards, 45% short essay prompts, and 15% overall application. All finalists will be required to participate in a short phone interview.

Any award of the Scholarship is at the sole discretion of the Cat Lift Trucks  Scholarship Committee.

Notification of Recipient:

A winner will be selected by February 24, 2023 and will be notified individually by a Cat Lift Trucks Scholarship Committee representative. The Cat Lift Trucks Scholarship Committee will also notify the counselor’s office of the recipient’s school.

Payment of Stipend:

It is the responsibility of the Scholarship recipient to notify the Cat Lift Trucks Scholarship Committee of the address of the financial aid office at the college, university, or technical school to be attended. This notice must be given a minimum of thirty (30) days prior to the beginning of the fall 2023 semester. Payment of the Scholarship will be made directly to the financial aid office of the college, university, or technical school in which the Scholarship recipient is enrolled for twelve (12) or more semester hours.
