New Brookshire City Budget Adopted

The new Brookshire City Budget will raise more total property taxes than last year’s budget by approximately $1,085,990.00, thirty-seven percent increase $271,00.00 over last year’s revenue. The large revenue jump will be fueled by new property added to the tax roll in the upcoming fiscal year.

Revenue:

Budget information includes $7,843,871.00 in projected revenue, and projected expenditures of $6,797,540.00. General Fund Revenue include such items as current Ad Valorem Tax ($4,079,367.00), Sales Tax ($1450,000.00), and Building Permits ($325,000.00).

Motel, Hotel Fund, which includes taxes collected, Convention rentals, festival concessions, plus prior year unexpended funds, will provide $382,133.00.00.

Additional unexpended fees collected during 2021-2022 fiscal year include $366,843.00.

Expenses:

Forecasted Departmental Expenses include salaries ($339,863.00) and Professional Services ($150,000.00)

Brookshire is growing:

In 2020, Brookshire’s population was listed as 5,138, making it the 400 largest city Texas. The city is currently growing at a rate of 0.71 percent annually, but according to Texas Demographics.com, its population has decreased by -8.27 percent since the most recent census. The Brookshire job market increased by 3.0 percent over last year. Future job growth over the next ten years is predicted to be 34.8, which is higher than the U.S. average of 33.5 percent.

Point West Distribution Center, and Empire West Business Park, between I-10 and HWY 90 in Brookshire have built large warehousing and manufacturing buildings.

Banyan Kingsland Heights, three- and four-bedroom homes, are being built, have built homes in Brookshire.

Bold Fox Development acquired approximately 215 acres of land in Brookshire for a new residential community. Homesite construction is to begin in early 2024. La Segarra, a 215-acre property located near Gassner Lane and FM 362, has constructed or will be building new homes. The Bluestem community of the Signorelli Company has purchased 365 acres, that will have more than 1,300 single family homes.
