The Village School Participates in ‘Suicide Prevention Week’

Students from The Village School, a pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade private day and boarding school located in Houston, showed their support for “Suicide Prevention Week” by wearing yellow and participating in various emotional/mental health activities the week of Sept. 12.

As part of Village’s “Suicide Prevention Week,” activities, students participated in the “Response Wall” activity. Each student was asked to fill out two sticky notes with the following prompts:

  • What do you wish you could say?
  • What do you need to hear?

“As the second leading cause of death for teenagers, teen suicide is a growing epidemic and schools must intervene to prevent these senseless tragedies,” said Callie Henriksen, a Social Emotional Counselor at The Village School. “Simple activities like the ones we implemented this past week help bring suicide prevention to the forefront and could potentially save a life.”
