Champions Are Named At The Houston Livestock Show And Rodeo Junior Market Poultry Show

The grand champion and reserve grand champion were chosen by four judges after sifting through hundreds of poultry entries the past two days in NRG Arena.

The top two pens of broilers in both the pullets and cockerels (chickens) were brought out, as well as the top two in both the toms and hens (turkeys).

Kenna Schram, from Sealy FFA, was awarded Grand Champion Pen of Broilers. The Reserve Grand Champion award went to Jalee Baumann from Snook FFA. Both exhibitors had excellent pens of birds as Schram competed with a pen of cockerels (males) and Baumann competed with a pen of pullets (females).

Grand Champion Junior Market Turkey went to Colson Mooney, from Guadalupe County 4-H. Reserve Grand Champion went to Travis Jenschke from Gillespe County 4-H.

“I never thought it would happen,” said Jenschke.

Dale Hyatt, the poultry superintendent described his thoughts of the competition exhibited throughout the two-day show.
