Katy ISD Wins State Championship Titles in Swimming and Wrestling

It’s been a week of recognitions for Katy ISD, as four student-athletes earned state championship titles in swimming and wrestling.  Katy ISD students represented the District well during UIL State Competitions for both sports and ultimately took home gold medals for their hard work.

At the boys and girls Texas Swim and Dive Meet that took place at the University of Texas in Austin, many athletes earned Top 6 hardware, but Jordan High School (JHS) sophomore Kaeli White made it to the top spot and was named the champion in the Girls 200 Freestyle Category.

“Since the start of the season, Kaeli has dedicated herself to improving her skill.  During the state competition, she swam fantastically and made every point count,” said JHS Swim Coach Scott Slay.

At the Berry Center in Cypress, where the State Wrestling Meet took place, several Katy ISD wrestlers set out to overcome some of the best athletes in the State of Texas.  After several rounds, sophomore Garrett McChesney from Jordan High School, senior Michael Bone from Taylor High School and junior Rodney Trotter from Katy High School earned the coveted Championship Title for their respective weight class.

“These students went into each round fully confident that they could win BIG and they did!,” said Taylor High School Wrestling Coach Todd Hart.  “Whether it’s on the mat or in the classroom, they are known for their commendable discipline and commitment to excel in whatever they set their mind to,” added Hart.
