Katy Area Community Band to Feature Yoojin Lee-Williams in Upcoming Concert

The Lone Star Symphonic Band will feature Pianist Yoojin Lee-Williams in a concert slated for February 27th, 2022. The concert, titled “Take Note(s)”, will be performed at Holy Covenant United Methodist Church, 22111 Morton Ranch Dr., Katy, Texas. The concert will begin at 4:00 pm, with tickets available for purchase on the band’s website (www.lssb.org) for $7.00 each.  Tickets will be available at the door the day of the concert for $11 each.

Dr. Lee-Williams is known for her musical insight, beautiful tone, and technical command. The native South Korean pianist performs actively as a soloist, collaborative pianist, and church musician. Dr. Lee-Williams was awarded full scholarship for academic excellence at the Chungnam National University, where she graduated in 2000 with the highest honors. Afterwards, Dr. Lee-Williams came to the USA for further studies in music. She received her Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in piano performance from the University of Houston. Dr. Lee-Williams has appeared in venues in South Korea and the United States, including the prestigious Carnegie Hall in 2014.  Currently, she is a professor of music at Houston Community College.

Selections to be performed at this concert include Leonard Bernstein’s Divertimento for Symphonic Band, John Wasson’s Curtain Call, Brian Balmages’ Beyond the Summit, Scott Joplin’s Maple Leaf Rag, Charlie Hill’s arrangement of 22 television theme songs from the 1950’s and 1960’s, and featuring Dr. Lee-Williams on Piano for Richard Addinsell’s Warsaw Concerto.

The Lone Star Symphonic Band is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to bringing performances of artistic merit to the Houston metropolitan area.  Founded in 1993 as the West Houston Concert Band, the band is comprised of musicians from all walks of life and instills the value that music is a life-long event, continuing well beyond high school and college.  In the summer of 2011, the Band began rehearsing and performing concerts at CrossPoint Community Church, in Katy, Texas.  In December 2012, the Lone Star Symphonic Band was awarded the Sudler Silver Scroll.  The Sudler Silver Scroll is North America’s most prestigious award for Community Concert Bands. The award is administered by the John Philip Sousa Foundation (www.sousafoundation.net).  The purpose of the award is to identify, recognize and honor those community bands that have demonstrated particularly high standards of excellence in concert activities over a period of several years, and which have played a significant and leading role in the cultural and musical environment in their respective communities. The Band is under the direction of Mr. Bob Bryant.
