More than 200 people dined, country-western danced, and bid on unique auction items at the Denim & Diamonds Gala held September 18 at Evelyn’s Park. The Gala was held in a diamond sparkling tent to raise funds for the Phase 2 facility improvements. Chaired by Lisa and Steve Lim, Terry Leavitt-Chavez Park Director and Anthony Chavez. The event generated positive buzz about the planned amenities which include shade pavilions, a splash pad, and two creative play areas.
The Evelyn’s Park story was featured in a video presentation about Evelyn Rubenstein whose family donated the 6-acre property (formerly Teas Nursery) to honor her. Aerial views of the site and architectural renderings gave guests a glimpse of new facilities. Evelyn’s Park is a unique private-public partnership with the City of Bellaire and has served as a gathering place for people of all ages since opening in 2017. During the pandemic it has been an important respite for outdoor activity. Guests enthusiastically supported Phase 2 by filling denim pockets with donation cards totaling more than $50,000.
The sell-out crowd as recruited by the Host Committee representing couples from throughout the Bellaire community and surrounding area. The auction, coordinated by Whitley Levy, generated more than $18,000 toward the goal. Major business sponsors included Acme Party & Tent, Adair Concepts, and McNee Productions. The Denim & Diamonds Gala event will be followed by a “Picnic in the Park” Opening Day event when the construction is completed.
