Family days out for this Father’s Day!

Father’s Day is an annual holiday celebrated on the third Sunday of June and this year celebrations falls on the 20th of June. Fathers worldwide spend time with their children on this special day and celebrate what it means to be a parent.

Father’s Day has been celebrated since the Middle Ages and was initially known as St Joseph’s Day. Traditionally, this day was celebrated with a huge feast – which continues to be a tradition for many families today. A Sunday Roast or Dad’s favorite dinner is the traditional meal to eat on Father’s Day in the UK.

There are various ways to celebrate Father’s Day and lots of fun activities to do as a family. It’s important to start the day by thanking your father for his role in your life – and then you can continue to the fun activities. Here are a few activities you can do this Father’s Day.

Have a family game night

Every Dad loves board games and pizza. Crack out your favorite family board games and enjoy a competitive evening. Of course, the classic ones include Monopoly, Scrabble, Twister and numerous card games. Order your Dad’s go-to pizza to eat while you play!

Visit a new city

A family day-out is the best way to spend Father’s Day. Catch a train to a nearby city and spend your afternoon at local tourist attractions, museums and restaurants. Keep in mind what your Dad likes to do and try to opt for spots that he will enjoy. For example, you could choose his favorite restaurant or go to a city that means a lot to him. He will appreciate the thoughtful touch.

Host a film night

Make it a special occasion and set up a projector and big screen for a cinema-style movie night. Parents often have hectic schedules and might appreciate a relaxing evening over a busy day out. Gather some blankets, snacks and fairy lights to make your space the ultimate at-home cinema.

A fishing trip

Dad’s love fishing and camping holidays – so why not surprise him? Book a glamping pod or campsite near his favourite fishing lake for Father’s Day weekend. You can surprise him with a thoughtful note in his Father’s Day card, saying you are taking him away for a fun-filled weekend! Just make sure to organise everything, including transport, accommodation and food. A fishing trip should be a chance for your Dad to sit back and relax.

Take a music class

If your Dad has always wanted to learn an instrument, book a few classes for both of you. You can learn to play the guitar, piano or another instrument in joint classes. This is a great way to spend some quality time together and find a new hobby for your Dad!
