Katy ISD Food for Families Launches School’s Out Program

By George Slaughter

The Katy Independent School District’s Partners in Education is expanding its Food for Families program that supports district-area families.

Food for Families is a community initiative that raises money to purchase grocery gift cards for district students and families in need. Now the initiative, first set up to help families during the holidays, is expanding to the summer months.

Partners in Education is working with all the district junior high schools for this summer launch. Campus officials help to identify students for the program. Partners in Education collects community and corporate donations.

In the 2020 holiday season, Food for Families raised over $60,000. Since its inception in 2002, this initiative has raised over $300,000 and helped more than 6,300 families, according to a news release.

Those interested in making a donation can do so either online or by check. Those donating by check are asked to make out the check to “Katy ISD Food for Families” and mailed to Partners in Education, Katy ISD Educational Support Center, 6301 S. Stadium Lane, Katy, Texas 77494.
