Sugar Land Cultural Arts Foundation Launches Teen Talent Competition

The Sugar Land Cultural Arts Foundation (SLCAF) is committed to seeing the stage lights go up and bringing the community exciting entertainment in a safe and alternative way with the first ever VIRTUAL Teen Talent Competition!

Cameron Krouch

It wasn’t easy for judges to choose a winner in the inaugural “Student Spotlights of the Month” talent event, but two finalists emerged to claim their spot in the final competition for top prize. Winners from the March round of competition Cameron Krouch, of George Ranch High School and Marco Jonsson of Dulles High School will compete in the final round of the talent showcase alongside their peers to be selected from the April and May rounds of competition.

Sugar Land’s Cultural Arts Foundation Youth Board opened the teen talent competition in March to students in grades 9th – 12th who attend Sugar Land area schools. Interested students can submit a 3‐ minute video showcasing their art where a panel of judges from the SLCAF Board will select two winners from the entries each month to advance to the final round and a chance at $450.

Senior Cameron Krouch captured his spot in the hallmark event performing a selection from “Kiss of the Spider Woman.” Krouch has been active in theatre from a young age and plans a future in acting. His winning video can be seen on YouTube at https://youtu.be/PHw‐vss8WTc.

Marco Jonsson

Fellow winner and senior Marco Jonsson, a violinist with the Dulles symphony orchestra, impressed judges with an intricate excerpt from his scholarship audition. Check out his performance on YouTube at https://youtu.be/CKR91haLLHw.

Both students advance to the final competition in June where fellow students, family, friends and the community can vote for their favorite performance online – American Idol‐style. Winners’ videos are posted on YouTube throughout the campaign. The finalists from each month will advance to the final round at the end of June to compete for the grand prize.

The “Student Spotlights of the Month,” talent competition is part of SLCAF mission to highlight the presence of the arts and culture in the Sugar Land community. For more information, about the Sugar Land Cultural Arts Foundation visit us online at https://slcaf.org.
