Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ Names Top Young Artists During 2021 School Art Program Awards Ceremony
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo recognized talented young artists during the School Art Program Awards Ceremony, Sunday, April 11.
Among the honorees were the Class Champions and Reserve Class Champions in the following categories: Colored Drawing, Mixed Medium, Monochromatic, Painting, 3D, Elementary and Junior High.

Thousands of students participated in the Rodeo’s 2021 School Art Program, from 95 public school districts and 38 private schools. Teachers sent 3,244 pieces of artwork to NRG Center for preliminary judging in January. The judges selected 712 pieces of artwork to advance to the next round of judging on Feb. 13, where 72 students were selected to participate in the School Art Auction, which will be held May 16.
Earlier this month, the Rodeo called for entries for its first-ever School Art Graphic Design Contest, encouraging students to submit their designs for a Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo-themed poster promoting the 2022 School Art Contest to eligible students. Submissions will be judged by the Rodeo’s School Art Committee, who will select the top 10 finalists. Finalists will be posted to the Rodeo’s social media pages for public judging May 3 – 7, and winners will be notified by May 15.
The Rodeo’s School Art Program promotes an awareness of agriculture, Western heritage and Rodeo activities through artistic competitions for students. The School Art Program has recorded nearly 10 million entries since 1965.
