The Women’s Fund for Health Education and Resiliency: 7th Annual Barbara Devetski College Scholarship Essay Contest

Application Deadline: Saturday, March 27, 2021

The Women’s Fund for Health Education and Resiliency, a nonprofit providing Houston-area women and girls with the tools needed to be advocates for their health, is now accepting applications for the 7th Annual Barbara Devetski Scholarship Essay Contest. Two winners will receive a $2,500 scholarship towards tuition for the 2021 fall semester.

“Adolescent girls often face many issues and need accurate health information and resources to overcome challenges and difficult situations,” said Linda Rhodes, Executive Director of The Women’s Fund. “We look forward to receiving essays about overcoming challenges and resiliency and to award scholarships to two individuals who are about to start a new chapter in their academic life in college.”

The scholarship was created in loving memory of Barbara Devetski, the organization’s first Executive Director who served in that capacity for over two decades. The Women’s Fund invites Houston area, college-bound, graduating high school senior girls, who plan to enroll in a minimum of nine college credit hours in the 2021 fall semester to participate in its essay contest. The essay must include the importance of resiliency, a time or situation in which the applicant was resilient, and explain what they learned from the situation and how it has prepared them for college.
