The Maine Coon Cat

The Internet has done wonders for cats. From websites to social media to apps, cats of all types are often front and center. People all over the world are exposed to a multitude of cat breeds daily. One of the most popular breeds is the Maine Coon, also known as the American Long Hair.

One look and anyone with a cat fancy is enamored. To begin with, Maine Coons are strikingly large – as in the largest domestic cat in the world type of large. They have a luxurious long-haired coat, with a miniature lion’s mane in the form of neck scruff. A fluffy thick tail resembling that of a raccoon is another signature.

The cost is equally large too. A pedigreed purebred Maine Coon’s price from an accredited cattery starts at $900 and can go up to $2000 (or more). In this way, the expense for a kitten is like a small dog, rather than a cat.

But this breed is no ordinary cat. On top of supermodel looks, they’ve got brains too. Like a dog, you can train them to walk outside on leash, do tricks, and even play fetch!
