Long-time Katy city engineer David Leyendecker died Wednesday, the city announced in a statement.

Cause of death was not given. Funeral arrangements are pending.

As engineer, Leyendecker’s key responsibilities include subdivision plotting and construction plan review and inspections. He was also responsible for overseeing the design of the city’s infrastructure, including streets, drainage systems, water and sanitary sewer systems.

Mayor Bill Hastings, in a statement, said Leyendecker had served the city for 45 years.

“To say he will be missed is an understatement,” Hastings said. “Our prayers are with his family. I will miss him.”

Council Member-at-Large and Mayor Pro Tem Chris Harris said in a statement he was very sad to learn of Leyendecker’s death.

“Praying for Kim and the entire family,” Harris said.

Ward A Council Member Janet Corte said in a statement that Leyendecker would be greatly missed.

“His passing is a terrible and unexpected loss not only for the City of Katy but also his friends and family,” Corte said. “Please keep David’s family in your prayers.”
