Houston Student is Accepted to Yale University as part of QuestBridge Match Program

Joelly Cortes

Hard work and determination have paid off for Harmony Science Academy – Houston senior Joelly Cortes who is now going to Yale University as part of QuestBridge’s Match Scholarship program. She will receive a four-year scholarship, which will cover the full cost of attendance, including tuition, room and board, and additional expenses for four years, to one of the nation’s top colleges.

Cortes has displayed strong academic achievement; high test scores on the SAT or ACT; financial circumstances; strong character; and exemplary accomplishments in the more than 12 extracurricular and community activities she has participated in while in school which included volunteer work at the Texas Children’s Hospital.

“When I got to Harmony, I had no sense of what it took to succeed in high school and eventually be admitted to one of these highly selective colleges. I owe Harmony for this accomplishment. Through the variety of clubs, the college-level courses, and the incomparable support from counselors and teachers, I was able to accomplish this success,” said Joelly Cortes, Harmony Science Academy, Senior.

Cortes plans to continue her commitment to giving back by studying neuroscience in a pre-med track field.
