ReUse Textile Recycling Service: Recycling, Collecting and Transporting Donated Textiles Benefiting Houston Nonprofits

ReUse Textile Recycling Services, a Houston recycling service dedicated to reducing textile waste, is offering a simplified, transparent no contact donation collection and transportation of used clothing, shoes, and home goods that benefits local Houston nonprofits.

“While recycling continues to grow in the U.S., on average, most people dump half of their body weight in clothing into landfills every year where it can sit for 200 years while 95 percent of used textiles could have been recycled,” said Fazeel Lakhani, Co-Founder of ReUse Textile Recycling Services. “With a mission to support local nonprofits through textile recycling and reduce waste, ReUse collects 18 million pounds of clothing a year and has provided more than $2 million to nonprofits.”

ReUse partners with Houston-area nonprofits such as Child Advocates, Clothes by Faith, Bayou City Art Festival, Daya Houston and more to conduct successful fundraising campaigns by seamlessly collecting and transporting recycled textiles without person-to-person contact. The recycling service company provides logistics support for collecting new, like new and used textiles from the Greater Houston area. The donation transportation routes are carefully created to conserve energy and resources.

As a partner of ReUse, nonprofits receive direct funding for their organization while creating a cleaner, conscious environment. While many nonprofits are impacted by the worldwide pandemic and subsequent canceled fundraisers, donors can support their nonprofit of choice by scheduling a donation pickup with ReUse. For each pound that is collected, the charity receives a portion of the funds and ReUse matches the funds raised during the campaign. The textile collection process has generated thousands of dollars for ReUse’s nonprofit partners while reducing environmental impact and operational costs. ReUse’s textile recycling services are only available to nonprofits in the Greater Houston area at this time.

All textile donations are sorted into two tiers. The lower tier donations are recycled into other forms of material or fiber for industrial use such as insulation. The higher tier donations are transported to third world communities across the globe that supports stimulating a job market in these countries.

The Founders of ReUse have more than 40 years of extensive experience in the textile recycling industry and are scouting physical locations that will serve as a drop-off locations in the Greater Houston area for textile donations.

Textile recycling creates sustainable benefits and reduces textile waste from Houston’s landfills. From all of the textiles that are produced in one year, 95 percent of it can be reused, upcycled or recycled.
