Staying Sane During Lockdown

Many of us are starting to come up on our second or even third week of lockdown during the escalation of the COVID-19 epidemic, so much time stuck indoors may have some of us going a little stir crazy – signs are showing that this could also continue for a few more weeks yet, and in some instances that the lockdown may become a bit more stringent. So what can we do to stay sane? We put together a small list of things that may help out – and although some options may seem quite obvious, it can also be easy to overlook some “me” time.

  1. Audiobooks – Plenty have made the transition to audiobooks, and whilst nothing may fill the feeling of cracking open a new book, an audiobook may serve as a suitable replacement for the paper counterpart, and with the current situation there are plenty of deals to be had. Audible have made hundreds of titles free and available to help those stuck at home with children and need a way to help keep them entertained, but with celebrity voice overs and readings for these books you may even find one of your favourites available at a discounted rate – perfect for listening to whilst doing other tasks or chores around the house, you may find a new passion in audiobooks.

  1. Movies and TV – Probably the most obvious one, but there are plenty of options available now – Disney+ is now available all over the world, with an entry cost that comes in a little lower than the competitors at Netflix and Amazon, with just as large a catalogue available. With this, however, the other services still do have large libraries with many titles that you may have missed.
  2. Gaming – Pokemon Go may be off the cards as you’re not stuck inside, but that doesn’t take away from your options – at maximumcasinos you can find an escape and win a little money, for those who have access to a Nintendo Switch may find joy in the new Animal Crossing release which puts you in charge of your own little village. Taking yourself into another world may help offer a nice distraction from what is going on in the news.
  3. Revitalising A Hobby – Maybe you have a guitar in the corner that has been picking up dust, your sewing or knitting kit that has been abandoned, or the hobby shop in the garage that hasn’t seen as much use as it used to. In the busy day to day it may be hard to find time to pick up your hobby, but with the additional free time at home, now is the perfect time to revitalise your lost hobby.

With any luck this many not continue for too much longer, however with no certainty it’s important to stay active and engaged at home – making sure you take an hour or so each day to have a little exercise, and finding something to keep your brain engaged for a little during the day – and perhaps you may even find a new habit that will stick long after this is over.
