KATY [December 4, 2019] – When walking the brick walkway located at Katy Heritage Park, you will notice names and sayings on the bricks increase each year, as they become a piece of Katy Independent School District history. Hundreds of park bricks are dedicated to campus educators and engraved with the names of those recognized by their campus as ‘Teacher of the Year.’ The annual event is a tradition that has been held for over nine years. On Tuesday, December 3, Katy ISD unveiled 68 bricks recognizing the 2018-19 educators, who earned the title of ‘Teacher of the Year’ at their campus during that school year.
“Behind every successful student is a teacher who has spent countless hours, not just teaching, but counseling and guiding them along the way,” said Superintendent Dr. Ken Gregorski. “Our teachers bring joy and academic knowledge to our students every day, and these bricks are only a small token of appreciation for everything they do,” added Gregorski.
The engraved bricks reside permanently in the historical common area in the center of the park and serve as a constant reminder of Katy ISD teachers’ service to students and the community.
The theme for the 2019-2020 school year, ‘Rooted in Excellence,’ focuses on one of the important factors being the exceptional legacy of educators, administration, and the community, who help build and maintain a solid foundation for the growing school district.
“It is our roots of outstanding teachers that continue to push the limits of creativity and innovation in every single Katy ISD classroom,” Board of Trustees President, Courtney Doyle, said. “I am thrilled to be part of this celebration which highlights the enduring mark each of you have made in our schools, district and community,” added Doyle.
